The first half of the season has presented plenty of challenges for our Premier League program, from adapting to a new venue and split playing nights to managing an evolving squad with seven players involved in the Suncorp Super Netball Reserves, along with athletes in State and SASI programs.
Despite this, the group’s resilience and the Contax mindset of “play anytime, anywhere” has shone through. The depth of our squad and the willingness of players to step up has seen us navigate these challenges, with the team sitting third on the ladder after eight rounds with five wins and three losses. While it may be slightly unfamiliar territory, everything remains within our control as we build towards the second half of the season.
One of the highlights has been the opportunities created across the squad, with 19 players taking the court in Premier League across the opening eight rounds, including seven debutants – Samaya Oakley, Maiya Kotwoski, Chrysta James, Chloe Peacock, Anna Goad, Anessah Oakley and Rachel Hayball. Their inclusions are a reflection of the strength of our pathways and the opportunities created through representative commitments.
With six minor rounds remaining, there will continue to be interruptions due to Australian camps and representative programs. However, these are challenges the club is well accustomed to, and the focus remains on embracing every opportunity, continuing to showcase our exciting brand of “speedball” netball and building towards finals.
Off the court, Heritage Round and our recent Hall of Fame celebrations were a real highlight, acknowledging our newest inductees and recognising the generations of people who have helped shape the proud history of Contax Netball Club.
While the season-ending knee injury to Alicia Harford has been a significant setback, her leadership and impact on the playing group extend far beyond what she brings on court. We wish Alicia all the very best for her surgery and look forward to her continuing to play an important role within the squad as she begins her recovery.
