Congratulations State 21U Champions

Contax Netball Club congratulates our State 21 and Under athletes, coaches and support staff on winning the 21/U National Netball Championships in Canberra on the weekend. South Australia is celebrating after claiming its first 21/U national title in almost a decade following a victory over Victoria in the grand final.

It was a fitting triumph for SA, who has finished runner up three times since their last title in 2004 – including last year. The 40-36 result was Victoria’s first loss of the tournament with South Australia’s vice-captain and goal keeper Kate Shimmin capping off an outstanding week by being named the San Remo Most Valuable Player of the carnival. Well done Kate!

Special congratulations to our Contax players – Maddy Proud, Chelsea Lemke, Gia Abernethy and Maddy Turner along with Tania Obst Coach and Contax Life Member. We are all very proud of you!

Trials Hot Weather

Please be aware that club trials will be going ahead on Sunday 17th February, 2013. Trials will be modified accordingly however as they are predominantly indoors with air-conditioning, we will be proceeding at this stage. As the weather will be warm, it is important for all players to drink more water prior to and during the trials.

Please note, as Sub Primary age group are the only ones with an outside court; the club will carefully manage this. Please still attend trials and if weather is deemed too hot to proceed, there will be a short meeting for Sub Primary that we need all players and parents to attend.

“This tour will be instrumental in our preparation for World Youth Cup in August next year,” Australian 21/U coach Carol Byers said.

“Playing national teams with a different style of netball and travelling to countries with a different culture is all part of the learning curve to develop both our team for the 2013 World Youth Netball Championships and to prepare players for their future netball career.

Congratulations to our very own Natalie von Bertouch who has been again named Captain of The Australian Diamonds team for the 2012 Holden Netball Test Series. Nat has played all her Junior Netball with our club prior to entering the National and Australian Stages – we are indeed proud of her achievements!

Coach Lisa Alexander has named a team of 15 players for next month’s three-Test Constellation Cup series against New Zealand and the Quad-Series featuring Australia, New Zealand, England and South Africa.

“It’s about ensuring that we’re giving our Diamonds as much exposure to international competition as possible in preparation for 2014 Commonwealth Games and 2015 World Netball Championships in Sydney,” Alexander said.

“She’s also been exposed to the Diamonds captain Natalie von Bertouch at the Thunderbirds and I think she’s learnt a lot about what it means to be a leader.”

“We’ve got a very youthful team for the 21/U International Netball Series so her previous experience and exposure to a great leadership style is going to be extremely important at this level, and having that will be an asset to this group.”

Our presentation dinner is the one night of the year where our whole club get together to celebrate the close of the season, our achievements and salute our award winners. This is always a night to remember and this year will again be no exception in the Hilton Grand Ballroom – dress to impress! The Hilton Adelaide has offered our club a very special deal and soft-drinks are also included in price. The club will again subsidize the cost of dinner for players only to assist out players – cost to you will be:-

$45.00 Senior/Intermediate Players & $20.00 Child (Junior to Sub-primary)

$50.00 Adults (other than Players)

(Soft Drinks are also included in the price)

3 course meal for Adults (Senior, Inters, Parents and Officials)

2 Course meal for Children (14 yr and under Players and siblings – sorry no exceptions)

As this is a huge event to arrange, (well over 500 people attend each year), it is important you book early to avoid any disappointment as numbers are restricted and it will be a very special night. Every effort will be made to accommodate any special seating request but as you can appreciate with dinners such as this it is often difficult and can’t be guaranteed. Your prompt bookings will assist greatly – sorry, no late bookings can be made!!

Please download the booking form from our Downloads link above (Presentation Night Booking Form) and return to the duty room with payment in full – prior to Wednesday 1st September, 2010. (Extended for a few days only….)

Club Coach Report

ETSA Contax State League Team are sitting on top of the ladder with 4 rounds to go. We train against or with the Reserves at least once per week and also against the Men's and other State League Teams. The players have religiously carried out their fitness routines outside of the normal training sessions and also we have implemented extra core-stability sessions on a weekly basis. As Club Coach I conducted a Development Course for Contax Coaches on Sunday 11th July, and also with the assistance of Bianca Reddy, held a coaching session for Primary and Sub-Primary players and Coaches at ETSA PARK during the school holidays.

The State League Players have been very diligent in working with their Buddy Teams at trainings on Wednesday nights and also watching them on Saturdays when they are available.

A catch up with all coaches was held a few weeks ago to make sure we are all on the right track. The Coaches and players at the Club have been fantastic and made me feel very welcome in my return to the Club. The Committee also have been very supportive in any recommendations I have put forward and I am really enjoying the opportunity of working with everyone involved at the Club.

ETSA Contax supports beyondblue

ETSA Contax supports beyondblue and the national depression initiative “Looking Beyond” in line with Netball Australia commitment to raise awareness of depression among women and girls in South Australia.

We aim to assist in building a society that understands and responds to the personal and social impact of depression, works actively to prevent it, and improves the quality of life for everyone affected.

Statistics show that women and girls are considered an 'at risk' group, with young girls experiencing depression at nearly twice the rate of young boys. beyondblue's research indicates that only 50 per cent of people who experience depression seek help, despite effective treatments being available. Depression can affect anyone at any time. The most important thing is to seek help early.

With the Netball “Looking Beyond” partnership we look to promote the positive benefits of women and girls leading an active lifestyle to improve their wellbeing and mental health.

It is part of our community strategy not only to promote healthy living but we also believe our profile in the Netball community along with the synergy of the ETSA Contax Blue Bodysuit gives rise to how we can positively impact this initiative.

In support of this initiative, ETSA Contax dedicated a training night on Wednesday 16th June, 2010 as our first beyondblue awareness night, our players all dressed in blue and were provided with an information pack to take home and share with their families. Players made gold coin donations on the night to support beyondblue. On Saturday 19th June, 2010 ETSA Contax had our Annual Club Day and the beyondblue message was shared with everyone the SA Netball community throughout the day with our players passing out information.

CLUB COACH REPORT

The ETSA Contax State League Team are currently at the top of the table. We have enjoyed very good wins against all opposition in the first round but are aware that we cannot take our foot off the pedal. The players and ETSA Contax committee and Coaches have made me very welcome and I am enjoying my return to the best club in Australia!

I have attended both Junior and Intermediate games on Saturdays and look forward to catching up with other grades in the near future.

We play a Round Robin against the Ressies, A1 and Inter 1 on a monthly basis and this also gives me the opportunity to have a look at what is coming through the grades.

I have introduced core stability and extra fitness sessions prior to Wednesday training nights and included the Ressies in the Core stability.

Jane Fitzgerald has been very supportive and her leadership qualities are second to none and I am enjoying working with her. I have coached all the players in the State League Team with the exception of Christie Nash in my former coaching roles, so did not come into this position without knowing what I may be getting into!!! I am loving being involved again.

The players have been extremely responsive to their Adopted Team commitments and I believe this is working well. I will be conducting the Nationally Accredited Development Course for eligible ETSA Contax Coaches on Sunday 4th July at Henley High School. Also in the July School Holidays I will be working with Primary and Sub Primary Coaches and players at ETSA PARK for a 2 hour session - any enquiries please contact Nanette Miller. I have asked Sheree Lewis to conduct the Foundation Course and this will be forthcoming in late July.

Congratulations to all players who have been selected in State Under Age Teams and I look forward to working with you all at various stages during the season. Well done also to Sheree Lewis who coached the State 17 and Under Team at the recent National Championships.

Changing of the Guard

ETSA Contax welcomes back Marg Angove OAM in a changing of the guard....

As a club we are delighted to welcome back Margaret Angove for season 2010 as our Club and State League Coach following the appointment of Tania Obst on Tuesday 9th March, 2010 as the new Head Netball Coach at South Australian Sports Institute.

Marg returns to ETSA Contax after stepping down from the role of Head Netball Coach with SASI which she has held from 1998 until now. There is indeed no more highly credentialed coach in South Australia and we were thrilled when Marg agreed to return to ETSA Contax where her Netball career began to help us as a club and more importantly to help our players achieve the ultimate success in 2010 that they so desperately want.

Marg coached our State League from 1980 to 1996 taking the team into 11 grand finals during this time winning five State League Premierships and one Super League Championship. Marg moved to become the inaugural coach of the Adelaide Thunderbirds in 1997 until 2006 taking them to two premierships in that time.

We congratulate Tania Obst on her new appointment. Tania is a Life Member of ETSA Contax and has been an integral part of the success of our State League and Club over the last decade and we wish her all the very best in her new position.

State League Camp

The State League has spent the last weekend preparing for season 2010. All squad members attended the camp held at Normanville. Friday night was spent inside using their "grey matter". They participated in team bonding and getting to know you challenges. The squad also finalised their "team rules" for the season ahead.

Saturday was a more physical day with a 3 hour hike, a soccer game, pool recovery sessions and finally an orienteering course.

The girls then headed back to Adelaide for an early start Sunday morning at the Netball SA Netty 20 tournament. Some valuable court time was had by all while also enjoying the rolling substitutions and 2 point attempts. One downer was the knee injury sustained by Jacinta Lycett, who we hope to see back on the court in 8 weeks time.

ETSA CONTAX SALUTES A LEGEND!

Many people who come and go, during their time, make significant contributions to make our Club what it is today. Last Friday evening, at the Club's annual Presentation Dinner, we recognised a stalwart who has dedicated herself to the success of the Club for over 50 years.

Pauline Fielden is a past player, past President, past umpire, current 'super' coach, current team coordinator, avid and extremely loyal hard worker and supporter of ETSA Contax.

She has seen the club uniform develop from the old box pleat one-piece uniform to the pleated fawn skirt, to the pale blue pleated skirt and the lycra bodysuit - still the best around!

This Club is a passion of Pauline's, something she holds very near and dear to her heart. Pauline, you too are near and dear to the heart of everyone who knows this Club and how it operates.

Congratulations Pauline and thank you for your dedication, hard work, guidance, support and loyalty over the past 50 years. You are an inspiration to your Club, your family and your friends. We are all very proud to know you and to be able to acknowledge your extraordinary contribution!

ETSA Contax finished the 2006 Winter Season on a high, winning a total of 8 Premierships and the Netball SA Club Excellence Award.

Our State League Team took home the Premier's Cup with a convincing Grand Final Victory over Bluewater Matrics and our State League Reserves Team hung on for a great 1 goal win, also over Bluewater Matrics, to win their Premiership.

Six of our teams were succesful in winning Premierships in the Adelaide Metro Netball Division. Congratulations to our B1, Junior 3(2), Junior 4(1), Junior 6, Primary 3(1) and Primary 5 Teams on their Grand Final success.

It was also very gratifying to, again, win the Netball SA Club Excellence Award. This means that ETSA Contax has won this award every year since its inception.

ETSA Contax thanks all Players, Umpires, Coaches, Sponsors and the many voluntary Officials from all Clubs who have contributed to a successful 2006 Season. A special thanks is due to the hardworking State League and Adelaide Metro Management Committees who put in many, often thankless, hours of hard work to ensure the smooth running of our Sport. Well done to all!
